I don't know about you, but I'm having a hard time getting used to the new $20 bill. As kids, I remember my dad had a glass box full of currency from various parts of the world. The collection included bills of various colors. My brothers and I used to kid about it looking like "Monopoly money!" Later, as a missionary in South America, I collected bills from various Latin American countries which, as well, were very colorful and contained beautifully decorated pictures of heroes and wildlife. However, from time to time, we'd joke about how much an item was worth, "in real money!" The "real money" would refer to the green backs or American dollar bills. That was something that you could always "count on!"
The new twenty dollar bill has all the same elements for security including a plastic security thread running through it, a watermark image of Andrew Jackson and color-shifting ink which changes from pink to blue, depending how it is held in the light. Some may like the change, but I for one have had a hard time accepting the new bill. After all, U.S. currency has always been the one constant throughout the world. One could always depend on getting a fair price for the good ol' "greenback!"
Oh, well, I suppose I'll get used to it! I am encouraged, however, that regardless of the changes in the dollar bill, whether it be in its color or in its value, our eternity doesn't depend on it! Jesus said it this way:
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven…But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well"-Matthew 6:19-20, 33
Imagine, treasures in heaven that will not wear out or be destroyed by use or stolen by thieves. Imagine, a kingdom to be given to believers in Christ! "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever."-Hebrews 13:8
Christ and His kingdom will never change! These are things, which in a world of constant flux, that you can always count on, even if the "green back" is now pink and blue!
