DEAR GOD

Perhaps you have seen the statements written by children either via emails or in books with titles like "Children's Letters to God", etc. Consider these statements by children:

  • "Dear God, Thank you for the baby brother, but what I asked for was a puppy. I never asked for anything else before. You can look it up."-Joyce
  • "Dear Mr. God, I wish you would not make it so easy for people to come apart. I had to have 3 stitches and a shot."-Janet
  • "Dear God, did you mean for giraffes to look like that, or was it an accident?"-Norma
  • "Dear God, I am doing the best I can. Really!" -Frank
  • "Dear God, In school we read that Thomas Edison made light, but in Sunday School they said you did it first. Did he steal your idea?"-Sincerely, Donna
  • "Dear God, if you watch in Church on Sunday, I will show you my new shoes."-Barbara

We laugh at these statements by children, but in them there is warmth, simplicity, and an absolute trust in a personal God who hears. Children have an innocence and humility about them that is needful to all who would seek God. Jesus, in speaking about adults who would desire after God said,

"I promise you this. If you don't change and become like a child, you will never get into the kingdom of heaven. But if you are an humble as this child, you are the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. " -Matthew 18:3-4 (CEV)

It takes a change of heart…humility…trust…like a child!
