FLAT EARTH SOCIETY

Charles K. Johnson, president of the Flat Earth Society died March 19 in Lancaster, California. He was 76 years old. Most of us have not even heard of Charles Johnson. Some, perhaps, have heard of the Flat Earth Society.

For the last thirty years, Mr. Johnson has dedicated his life to the belief that the Earth is flat, with the North Pole being the magnetic center of Earth and Antarctica spread around its outer rim. Johnson declared, "What everyone has been taught all their lives is complete foolishness!"

Not since the pre-Galileo era has anyone believed such nonsense. However, we must remember that even Galileo's theory that the earth revolved the sun was condemned by the church in 1616.

Shouldn't we, as Christians, be as at least as convinced as Charles Johnson concerning that which we know to be true! This man gave his life to a theory that is utterly false. The apostle Paul lived and died believing that "Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised from the dead on the third day and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve."-1 Corinthians 15: 3-5. Paul lived and died believing this truth. To Timothy he declared, "I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day."-2 Tim. 1:12.

God help us to have such faith and conviction in what we know is true!
