As I sit in my office today, lightning is flashing and thunder rumbling outside my window. I have already recorded over eight inches of rain in the past couple of days and it's coming down again! Governor Rick Perry has authorized the National Guard helicopters to launch search and rescue missions should it become necessary.
Some folks in low lying areas are already evacuating the flood prone areas around creeks and rivers. One woman, who just recently rebuilt her home following another flood earlier this year said, "We just got everything back that we had lost and it looks like we're going to lose it all again." Others were moving to higher ground after receiving more rain earlier this week. One man stated, "I see everyone else leaving and I'm thinking they know something I don't. Maybe I'll leave too."
When it's flooding it's important to find higher ground! Unfortunately for those living in the days of Noah, the water rose twenty-two feet above the highest mountains. Can you imagine that? There would be no higher ground to which to migrate! There would be no refuge, no relief from the devastating waters of the flood.
The fortunate thing for us, even has much rain as we have recently witnessed, is that God has promised that He will never bring rain to destroy the earth by flood again. Hear the word of God:
"I will establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be cut off by the
waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth…I have set my rainbow in the clouds"-Gen. 9:11-12
God's promises; they are of great comfort and solace in the midst of storms, hail and high water! Thank God for rainbows!
